It’s my job: Professional Astrologer
April 29, 2012 in Astrology
Jim Seymour has been studying and researching astrology for about 20 years.
One might say Cloverdale’s Jim Seymour has his head in the stars, and in a way, they’d be right. Seymour is a professional astrologer.
According to poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Astrology is astronomy brought down to earth and applied toward the affairs of men.”
It is important to note that astrology is not fortune telling. Literally translated it means “the science of the stars,” and its scientific validity was appreciated by the likes of Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, among others. Leonardo De Vinci and Benjamin Franklin were each highly accomplished astrologers in their own right.
President Teddy Roosevelt, who kept his horoscope mounted on a chessboard in the Oval Office, once said, “I always keep my weather eye on the opposition of my seventh house Moon to my first house Mars.”
What exactly does an astrologer do?
Formerly, astrologers used an ephemeris, or an annually-published volume of tables listing the positions of the planets throughout the year, to pinpoint their exact locations. This process was both laborious and time consuming.
Today, the latest computer programs have greatly simplified and accelerated the procedure.
Using this geocentric information, an astrologer then casts a natal chart, or horoscope, which is essentially a map of the sky at the moment a person is born, unique for that particular location. Using this symbolic tool as a reference, and having a broad understanding of all the elements that go into chart analysis, an astrologer can derive an immense amount of information about a client’s basic character traits, personality, life challenges, career potentials and relationship tendencies, as well as favorable time periods conducive for planning specific life events, etc.
How long have you been doing astrological charts?
For about 10 years, mainly for friends and family members. I started doing charts professionally only in the last couple of years, being inspired by a book entitled “Do What You Love, and the Money Will Follow.”
What first got you interested in it?
In the early 90′s, I was working in a Santa Rosa retail store when a customer began telling me all about astrology and how it works. When he asked for my birthday, I was amazed at how accurately he could describe my traits. At that point, I was “hooked” and have been reading voraciously on the subject since then.
Did you have any specialized training?
Not in the sense of taking classes or anything like that. Technically, I am self-taught, although I have apprenticed myself to a master astrologer by carefully studying the tape recordings of my own chart readings with him over the last 18 years and then correlating his work with actual life events. It’s been uncanny. I have been reading, studying, researching and applying the subject for about 20 years.
Do you need the actual time of birth for a reading?
A very good, more generalized reading can still be derived without knowing the exact time of birth. It’s much more accurate, however, if that is known simply because the Earth is rotating rather quickly – about 1,070 mph. For more serious consideration and analysis, it’s always advised to get a birth certificate time for calculation purposes.
Why do people consult an astrologer?
Most often it is simply to “get a fix” or to locate themselves on the map of their life. Most are at some sort of a crossroads in their journey and are seeking some useful guidance for decisions they might make. Others want to know if a certain person is compatible with them for a relationship. These compatibility scans are very accurate, highly interesting, and lots of fun, too.
What is the best part of your job?
Having the privilege of doing what I love, while providing a useful service to my clients.
What brings you the most job satisfaction?
It happens whenever a client contacts me anytime after a session and just pours out their appreciation for the accuracy and practical usefulness of my services.
What do you charge?
Prices vary depending on what my client wants. My standard offering is an hour-long one-on-one phone session, about a 15 page written personality report, their current and upcoming planetary transits and progressions report (which describe various potential life trends they can expect), and finally, their unique, personalized birth chart in color, all for just $75.
How can people reach you?
They can contact me through my company, Starduster Solutions, at either jim51@pon.net or 894-5419.
