Criminals’ kundli to guide cops

LUCKNOW: If sky is the limit, the Uttar Pradesh Police is all set to go a step further — to the stars, by working out criminal cases with the help of astrology, or rather Forensic Astrology. Some of the world’s best police departments are already into Forensic Astrology — the art of using horary in combination with birth charts to determine the nature of events as they occurred in an unsolved crime. And UPP top brass feel that this largest police force in the world must also keep pace with the best.

Officials at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Lucknow, are already looking for a site where this innovative unit could be housed. Recently, director FSL, Lucknow, Shyam Bihari Upadhyay visited Moradabad, reportedly, to finalise if any such lab could come up there as well. Needless to say that a unit at FSL, Lucknow has already been finalised.

But the highly innovative approach has apparently not gone down well with most of the serving senior police officials and almost all the retired ones, who were contacted by the TOI. The general perception against the proposed move was that there were dozens of other areas that need immediate attention.

However, some of the serving officers, who are backing the concept, opined that it was an opportunity to find a new face for the UPP, which has been synonymous with “third degree torture” of suspects to force them confess to a crime.

Taurus: Black Raspberry Milkshake

2 oz Belvedere Black Raspberry
1 oz strawberry juice
Dash simple syrup
2 oz milk
1/8 oz single cream

Directions: Place all ingredients in a Boston Shaker and shake vigorously over cubed ice. Serve in a short milkshake glass, garnish with a fresh strawberry.

Gemini: Orange Blossom Negroni
1 1/4 oz Belvedere Orange
3/4 oz Campari
1/2 oz Noilly Prat Rouge

Directions: Stir over cubed ice and garnish with an orange slice.

Cancer: Polish Mule

2 ounces Belvedere
Fresh lime juice
Angostura bitters
Ginger beer

Directions: Shake all ingredients and strain over cubed ice into a highball glass.

Leo: Veuve Cliquot Clemintini

1 oz clementine puree
1/2 oz peach puree
VCP Yellow Label

Directions: Stir and pour into a champagne flute. Garnish with a yellow rose petal.

Virgo: Citrus Cider Mojito

2 oz Belvedere Citrus
Handful fresh mint
2 oz pressed apple cider
Dash lemon juice
Dash simple syrup

Directions: Add all ingredients to a highball glass and top with crushed ice. Churn and top with crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig and lemon slice.

Pisces: Deconstructed Mojito

16 oz chilled brewed mint tea, unsweetened
10 oz Belvedere IX
6 cups pink cotton candy — each topped with a leaf of mint
5 oz fresh lime juice

Directions: Shake liquid ingredients well. Pour cold drink over top of cotton candy, and watch it melt.

Aries: 10 Cane Light and Stormy

2 oz 10 Cane
Lime juice
Dash Angostura bitters
Top with ginger beer

Directions: Garnish with lime wedge and two clear straws.

Libra: Grand Margarita

2 oz premium tequila
1/2 oz Grand Marnier
1/2 oz lime juice

Directions: Shake and strain over cubed ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Scorpio: Belvedere Intense Martini

50 Ml Belvedere Intense
Dash of premium white vermouth

Directions: Stir together over glacial ice and pour into a crystal martini glass.

Sagittarius: Hemingway Daiquiri

2 oz 10 cane rum
1 oz lime juice
1/4 oz simple syrup
1/4 oz maraschino syrup

Directions: Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Lime wheel garnish.

Capricorn: Hennessy Apricot Sidecar

2 oz Hennessy
1/2 oz premium triple sec
1/2 oz lemon juice
6 dried apricots

Directions: Muddle apricots with triple sec. Shake with cubed ice and fine-strain into a cocktail glass. Lemon twist garnish.

Aquarius: 10 Cane Mai Tai

2 oz 10 Cane
1/2 oz Crème de Peche
1/3 oz Crème de Kumquat
1/2 oz Amaretto
1/2 oz lemon juice
2 1/2 oz fresh pineapple juice
Dash Lemon bitters
1/3 oz agave syrup
2 mint leaves

Directions: Mix together and serve.
